Schools in connection with St James the Less Ancoats
ST JAMES THE LESS, ANCOATS - On Saturday the memorial stone was laid of a new school in connection with this church. A parsonage is at present being built by the side of the church (which is in Little Newton Street), and the school adjoins the parsonage. The three buildings may therefore be described as in one block. The school is to be of two storeys, with a floor underground to be used as a playground. It will be of brick, with stone facings, and the style adopted is Gothic. The builder is Mr J I Ward, Upper Brook Street. The cost of the school is to be about £1,800. The estimate for the parsonage is £1,700, and these two sums, added to the cost of the land, make a total of £6,000. The school is intended mainly for Sunday purposes, but it will also be used as a day school.
