RYDAL MOUNT WESLEYAN METHODIST SCHOOLS. The new schools in connection with the Rydal Mount Wesleyan Chapel, Waterloo Road Cheetham were formerly opened last evening. The building is situated immediately behind the chapel, and its dimensions are 70 feet by 36 feet On the ground floor there are an infants’ schoolroom 25 feet square; a large lecture room, three classrooms, and a vestry. On the first floor there is a general schoolroom, 48 feet by 36 feet; with three classrooms about 12 feet square. The total cost, exclusive of the land, will be about ,2,000, the whole of which has been subscribed. The old schools, which are much smaller than the new ones, will be appropriated for the purpose of lengthening the chapel. The average attendance of Sunday scholars at the present time is about 300, and should the educational necessities of the neighbourhood warrant such a step, it is intended to open the new buildings as day schools. Messrs Blackwell and Booth were the architects, and Mr Foggett, the builder. [Manchester Guardian 19 March 1873 page 6]
