ROYAL LONDON FRIENDLY SOCIETY’S BUILDING AND THE TOLLARD ROYAL HOTEL, SOUTHAMPTON ROW. LONDON WC - The site was purchased from the London County Council, and the buildings occupy an important position at the Holborn end entrance of the Kingsway in a direct line with Southampton-row. Part of the ground-floor and basement will be used by the Royal London Friendly Society as a branch office. The remainder of the building will be known. as the Tollard Royal Hotel, and has been acquired by Mr. J. A. Butterworth, of Bournemouth. The building is of steel-framed construction with concrete floors, the walls being faced with Portland and Ancaster stones. The general contractor is Mr. B. E. Nightingale, of Albert Embankment. The drawing was in the Royal Academy last season. The architects are Messrs. Bradshaw and Gass. The plans give herewith show the internal arrangements. [Building News 2 February 1906 Page 169]

The firm of Bradshaw and Gass, F.R.I.B.A., of Bolton and London, whose work was illustrated in our last issue, includes Mr. Arthur J. Hope, whose name should also have been associated in the letterpress description of the buildings. [Building News 16 February 1906 page 255]
