NEW ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH AT WITHINGTON, MANCHESTER - A new Roman Catholic church is in course of erection at the junction of Marriott Street and Palatine Road. That portion of the structure - the nave, with baptistry, in which the altar will be placed at present - which it is intended to finish now is rapidly approaching completion. The church, which is dedicated to the Holy Ghost and St. Cuthbert, is Byzantine in style, the material used in construction being red brick with freestone facings. The total length will be 114 feet; the transepts, which are apsidal, will be 74 feet. A sacristy is included in the design, and a plot of land adjoining the church is secured for a priest's residence. The floor is to be inlaid with wood on concrete, while the walls up to a certain height will be inlaid with encaustic tiles. The structure is intended to accommodate 500 worshippers.
