The new Roman Catholic Church of the English Martyrs in Roseneath Road, Salford (sic), built at a cost of £2,300 was formally opened last week. It is Romanesque in style, is built of white headed bricks, with terra-cotta mouldings from designs by Mr Henry Oswald Hill, of Manchester, and will seat 300 people. The Foundation Stone was laid on 24th May 1913 by Bishop John Vaughan (Auxiliary to the Bishop of Salford) and although it was incomplete, the Church was used for Mass on Rosary Sunday that same year. The formal opening however took place on Sunday 25th January 1914. The cost of the Church was £2,573.6s.5d. – church website.
