KENDAL - The Congregational church was reopened on Sunday last, the 20th inst., after restoration, which comprises repairs and re-slating to roof, The old cumbrous box pews have been removed, and open pitch- pine seats substituted. The old sash windows have been replaced by framed moulded windows, which are more in keeping with the building. A new rostrum, having framing of pitch- pine and mahogany, with circular-headed openings and turned shafts, takes the place of the old three-decker pulpit. The walls and ceilings have been coloured and decorated with stencilled ornaments of various tints. The work has been done by local builders from the designs, and under the superintendence of, Mr. Robert Walker, architect, Windermere. [ Building News 25 September 1885 page 486]
