Located in a parade of shops in the Waterloo district, to the north of Liverpool. The Queen’s Picture House opened on 17th March 1913, with seating for 660. Designed by local architect Joseph Pearce. the main elevation to South Road featured windows within two arches at first floor level and a central tower and dome. By the 1930 the entrances were protected by a canopy extending the width of the pavement Inside the auditorium seating was on a stadium plan, with a stepped raised section at the rear (rather than an overhanging balcony).

In 1920 the picture house was taken over by the Wirral Picturedromes Ltd circuit. A Western Electric sound system was installed in May 1930 and Cinemascope in 1955. The Queen’s Picture House closed on 22nd August 1959 and was converted into a furniture store. Over the years, the original frontage was gradually removed and is now unrecognisable. It was last owned by the Waterloo Furnishing Stores Ltd. which closed by September 2009.  It was purchased by the J.D. Wetherspoon chain of pubs in 2011, and opened on the 10th April 2012 as the ‘Queen’s Picture House.’

NOTE: A postcard from 1930s indicates numerous changes to the drawing held in Liverpool Record Office.
