BARNET, HERTS - The Governors of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Barnet, invite tenders for the erection of Extensions to the Girls' Grammar School, Barnet, Herts, in accordance with the plans and specifications prepared by their architect, Mr John Ladds, of 98 Pemberton Road, Harringay, N, where plans and specifications may be seen between the hours of 10 and 4pm (Sundays excepted), after 4 November. Builders wishing to tender must apply by letter to the architect on or before 4 November for a copy of the quantities, enclosing a five pound Bank of England note, which will be returned to those builders sending in a bone-fide tender, again their returning the receipt given within three months from the date thereof. Tenders must be delivered to me at my office not later than 4pm on 17 November. The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted, nor will any order be given for commissioning the works until the sanction of the Board of Education and the Local Government Board shall have been given to the acceptance of the tender. The builder accepted must be prepared to enter into a Contract and Bond with two sufficiently approved sureties in the sum of one thousand pounds for the due completion of the works. A stone plaque is situated the front of Queen Elizabeth Girls' School recording the date of the formation of the original Queen Elizabeth Grammar School in 1573 and the Girls' School in 1888. It also records the name of the architect - J Ladds and has two royal coats of arms above the wording.
