The Public Hall and Working Men's Liberal Club, in Stevens street, was erected about 1890 by a company, with a capital of and comprises gabled building of local grey and Ruabon brick. with stone dressings, in a plain style, from designs by Mr John Bowdon C.E. of Manchester, estate agent to Sir H. de Trafford bart.: the ground floor, occupied by the Liberal Club, comprises reading and card rooms, a billiard room with two tables, and secretary's office: the upper floor contains a large hall, 45 by 30 feet, with a stage, and will seat 400 persons: attached are rooms available for various purposes, and the building also includes apartments for a caretaker and waiting room. Adjoining the club is a bowling green, 50 by 40 yards in area, and portions of the premises are let to a private school and a young men's bible class.
