In February 1910 P C Larmuth, who was also agent of a building estate for sale in Burnage Lane negotiated the sale of a plot of land to Richard Lomas and was subsequently appointed architect for three shops to be erected on the plot. Plans were submitted for Building Regulations approval but six weeks later the Corporation intimated that they could not pass the plans as they intended to widen the street and set back the building line by five yards. Richard Lomas contended that the scheme was now impracticable and refused to pay the architect’s fees. The dispute was heard in Manchester County Court settled in favour of Richard Lomas.
