The Premier Picture Hall opened in 1913 following alterations and additions to an existing cinema to the plans of John Knight. It is shown on the OS revision of 1915 as Picture Theatre and is included in Slater’s 1917 Directory as ‘Premier Picture Hall (Premier Pictures Ltd)’. By the 1920s it was operated by Circuit Cinemas Ltd., who. in 1925, opened the new and much larger Premier Cinema (later ABC) on the opposite side of Cheetham Hill Road (qv). The Premier Picture Hall was then re-named Greenhill Cinema after the nearby Greenhill Road. In the early 1930s the Greenhill Cinema was taken over by the Union Cinemas chain, and by 1937, it was operated by an independent. It closed on 19th May 1962 after which it was converted into a bingo club, which operated for many years before becoming a supermarket, named Manchester Super Store.
