Police Station, Trafford Road, Salford
A second new police station is in Trafford Road. The architect is Mr Alfred Darbyshire FRIBA. It is expected to be completed about the middle of 1889. The design includes a mortuary and shedding for manual fire engine. The style of architecture is Elizabethan. The lower portion is in red brick, and the upper in half-timber work and plaster. Height, two storeys and cost nearly £3,000. The erection of a police station with mortuary and shedding in this locality is evidence of foresight on the part of the Corporation. It is necessary that a police station should be near the Salford Docks; that a fire engine should not be far off; and that a mortuary should be within easy distance. Accommodation will be provided for 12 single men and one married officer, with all necessary household conveniences, and half a dozen cells for prisoners.
