The brick overbridge at the end of Goostrey Station bears a record of the engineer of the line. On the south side the keystone shows two coats of arms, presumably Manchester and Birmingham, and bears the lettering G W Buck, 1841, Engineer M and B R(ailway), , whilst on the one on the north side is carved William Baker, 1841, Resident Engineer, M and B R(ailway). The station itself was not built until 1891.

While improving the station area in 2013, the Friends of Goostrey Station re-discovered the south keystone of the road bridge. It was removed so the bridge could be raised to allow electric trains to pass under. At one time the stone was mounted on the platform but was later removed. It is planned  to clean the stone and then erect it again on one of the platforms.
