New Organ and Case; St. Andrew's Church, Ancoats
Opening of the New Organ in St. Andrew's Church—The new organ just completed out townsman, Mr. Renn, for St. Andrew's Church, Ancoats, was opened on Sunday last, when selections of sacred music were performed, and sermons preached in the morning, afternoon, and evening. The instrument is one of the finest ever erected that celebrated builder; in the richness and solidity of its diapasons, it is not exceeded any in the kingdom, and its parts are so arranged that no combination of instruments could produce effects equal to those which it is calculated to produce.
It is enclosed in a handsome case, the front of which forms a combination towers in the style of the century, and in perfect unison with the interior of the church, from design by Mr Richard Lane, of this town, architect. The case is painted very dark brown colour, similar to that of the organ in the Collegiate Church, before its removal, which forms a rich contrast with the massy gilt pipes in front, the largest of which weighs seven cwt. The dimensions of the instrument are 28 feet in height, 19 feet width, and 12 feet deep. [Manchester Courier 4 August 1832 page 2]
