NEW SCHOOL AT STAND —The Bishop of Manchester opened a new National School at Stand on Saturday. The building has been erected of red bricks, from plans designed by Mr. W. A. Lofthouse, Smedley Lane. It will accommodate about 500 children—183 boys, 162 girls, and 155 infants. The cost of the building will be about £2,700. A grant of £500 has been made by the Education Department, and a balance of £300 has still to be raised to defray the cost. [British Architect 23 October 1874 page  265]
