MILES PLATTING UNITARIAN FREE CHURCH - The memorial stone of the new church in Oldham Road was laid on Saturday by the Rev William Gaskell.(speeches etc.)  …. The church occupies a well-elevated site fronting the Oldham Road. The style of architecture is Gothic and the building is faced externally with parpoint stone, the ashlar and moulded work being from the Halifax quarries. Large traceried windows decorate the chancel and main front which is also flanked by a tower, to be used as a staircase entrance to the gallery over [the} vestibule. Sitting accommodation is provided for 400 people in the body and gallery. The whole of the internal fittings are in varnished pitch pine, and the roof, which is a clear span, is open timbered. The work is being carried out by Mr A W Smith, architect, 88 Mosley Street. The contractor for the work is Mr W W Harrison of this city. [Manchester Guardian 23 October 1882 Page 5]
