Manchester Aquarium Alexandra Park
PROPOSED MANCHESTER AQUARIUM – A company has been formed to erect a building exceeding in magnitude the great Aquarium at Sydenham, for the purpose of a public exhibition of marine and fresh-water animal life. In addition to the Aquarium, sufficient land has been purchased to enable the company to construct a winter garden by erection of conservatories, plant houses, marine aviary, and other interesting and instructive auxiliaries, thus meeting a want that has been long felt of an intellectual and pleasing retreat in the colder months of the year. Mr Joseph Sherwin is the architect. [The Architect 1 June 1872 page 290]
