CORNER STONE LAYING - On Saturday last, the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of a new residence at Newchurch for Samuel Lord, Esq., took place in the presence of select circle. In a cavity in the stone was placed a bottle containing a handsome inscription on vellum, coins of the realm, and other emblems. The stone having been truly laid and the residence named, the contractor and the whole of the workmen, 80 in number, adjoined to the Masons' Arms Inn, where a first-rate dinner provided in the usual profuse style of the hostess, the men appeared to fully appreciate the very liberal treat given them by Mr. Lord. The stone of which the edifice is being built is bought from Burnley, and is of a beautiful colour and texture. Mr. H. Percival, of Newchurch is the architect [Burnley Advertiser 29 August 1863 page 2].
