Longsight Conservative Club
A new Conservative Club at Longsight, Manchester was opened last Thursday by Mr W Houldsworth and Mr Birley MP. The club building contains a reading room, to be used when required as a concert room, 54 feet long by 32 feet wide and 19 feet high; a billiard room, 58 feet six inches long by 33 feet wide and 24 feet high; card room 20 feet long and 16 feet high; and all the usual offices, keeper’s residence etc. The building is Gothic and the main feature of the work is the turret at the angle. The whole is warmed and ventilated by the apparatus patented y Messrs Shillito and Shorecross of Manchester. The architects are Messrs Smith and Heathcote, Mosley Street, Manchester, and Mr Thomas Shaw of Longsight is the contractor. [British Architect 19 October 1877 Page 197]
