Lifeboat Station, Central Promenade, Blackpool
Opened by the Duke of Kent on 21 October 1937, the Lifeboat Station was built to accommodate the new motor lifeboat which replaced the old pulling and sailing lifeboat. It remained in use until 1998 when a new station opened further down the promenade. Following use as an ice cream stall it was demolished by the Corporation in 2009 to make way for new sea defences. It was generally considered one of Halstead Best’s most successful designs in faience, using material supplied by Hathern.
