In 1922, Hearne had been consulted by Joseph Booth concerning land in Irlam for a housing scheme. This fell through but later Booth formed the Irlam Brick Company Limited to work this land as a brickworks. Frank Hearne was appointed architect and on 29 May 1924 the directors allotted him 500 £1 shares, with the option of taking up a further £500 worth of shares. This was to be payment for work done. In 1925 he took up the other 500 shares and had them allocated to his three sisters. A subsequent dispute concerning the sale of the shares was heard at Manchester Assizes.
