LARGE WAREHOUSES - There is now in the course of erection, in Mount Street, Peter Street, a warehouse which, we are informed, will considerably exceed in size any similar building now existing in this city or its neighbourhood, if not in England. The building will cover the whole of the plot of land behind the Museum of the Natural History Society, bounded by Mount Street, Windmill Street, and Museum Street, and upon which for many years, it has been customary to fix the tents or temporary erections used for circus performances, when such exhibitions have been opened here. The building will consist of six storeys, including the basement and will be at least 70 feet high to the cornice; towards Mount Street it will have a frontage of 162 feet, but the slope of Windmill Street is such as to reduce the length of the frontage to Museum Street to 120 feet. The breadth will be 106 feet. This enormous pile is being built for Messrs John Pender and Company, merchants, of Dale Street; the architect is Mr James Donnison, and the contractors, Messrs Hay, Nish and M’Kean. As far as the erection has yet proceeded, the outer walls consist of substantial brickwork, faced with massive stonework, with rustic dressings; and we understand that, throughout, every recent improvement is to be introduced. - We have heard that a new warehouse for Messrs S and J Watts and Company, of Fountain Street, is shortly to be commenced in Portland Street; and that it will be still larger than the one for Messrs J Pender and Company.
