Jewish Soup Kitchen Southall Street Cheetham
NEW JEWISH SOUP KITCHEN - Great interest is being taken in the laying this afternoon of the foundation-stone of a new soup kitchen for Jewish poor at Southall Street, Cheetham. The ceremony will be performed the Lord Mayor of Manchester (Councillor J H Thewlis), while the Mayor of Salford (Alderman Frankenburg) will preside. The soup kitchen has been carried on with considerable success for the past ten years, and though primarily intended for the Jewish poor of Manchester it has done much good among necessitous cases all nominations. During the past winter, indeed, some thousands of tickets for soup, bread, and meat, were given by the committee the Chief Constable for general distribution by the police among deserving poor. ….. and the architect has been Mr Thomas Bushell.
