A NEW INFIRMARY AT BURY: OPENING CEREMONY -  The new infirmary which has been built at the. Bury Union Workhouse at Jericho, Bury, was opened yesterday afternoon by Mr D. Healey, of Heywood, chairman of the Hospital Committee, in the presence of members of the Board of Guardians and several prominent residents in the union. The infirmary has been erected by Mr James Byrom, contractor, Bury, from plans by Mr. Alfred Hopkinson. Architect, Bury, the amount of the contract being £20,699. There is an administrative block in which accommodation is provided for a superintendent nurse and sixteen nurses, two, large pavilions (one for men and, the other for women), and a maternity Ward. The pavilions and wards provide accommodation for 126 patients. The grounds are to be. laid by pauper labour under the supervision of an experienced gardener. A new laundry, boiler-house, engine-house, and tall chimney are being built at the workhouse, the contract for this work being £9,300. [Manchester Guardian 21 September 1905 page 12].
