NEW INDEPENDENT METHODIST CHAPEL AT WINGATES - The corner stone of a new independent Methodist Chapel was laid on Saturday afternoon at Wingates, Westhoughton, by Mr. James Cook, of Little Hulton. The site of the new chapel is only a short distance from the old chapel, being off White Horse-lane. and nearly opposite to Chapel Lane. The building will be a plain one of brick with stone facings in the front and will be 16 yards long by 12 yards wide, with vestry attached. The land which forms the site of the new chapel is the property of Mr. James Higson and has been let to the chapel trustees at a very moderate rental. There will not be any gallery io the chapel, and the centre of the floor will be occupied by pitch pine pews, and the pulpit or platform will be formed of the same material. The chapel will accommodate 400 persons comfortably. The architect of the building is Mr. James Lomax, of Fold Street Bolton and the price of the whole structure will be between £700 and £800. The general contractors are Messrs. Peter and Thomas Boardman, of Westhoughton; for the stonework, Messrs. Pilkington and Smith, of Bolton; for brick work, Messrs. J. and H. Brown, of Bolton.
