HIDE AND SKIN MARKET, MANCHESTER - The subject of our illustration is a new Hide and Skin Market, now in course of erection at the corner of Regent Road and Water Street, for Messrs Richard Markendale and Company Limited. The site contains 3,270 square yards and is enclosed upon the Regent Road and Water Street sides by the different offices and buildings. The yard is covered by a semi-circular roof of 88 feet span, the main ribs and purlins of which are of light iron construction. The building is principally of brick with Derbyshire stone dressings, the whole of the yard inside being lined with white glazed bricks to the height of about 7 feet, and above with cream-coloured brick to the roof. The contractor for the work is Mr Joseph Davison, of Cheetham. The iron roof is being constructed by Messrs De Bergue & Co., of Strangeways. [British Architect 30 May 1879 page 224]
