Hartington Hall, standing on the fringe of Hartington village in Derbyshire, was built in 1611 for Thomas Bateman. It is stone built, gabled and H shaped in plan. Owned by the Bateman family for centuries it was sold to the Youth Hostel Association in 1948 and has remained a Youth Hostel ever since.
