Gate Lodge, Newton Hall, near Leeds
GATE LODGE, NEWTON HALL, NEAR LEEDS - This lodge and gate have been recently completed, under the superintendence of Mr. William Reed Corson, architect, for Arthur Lupton, Esq., at the entrance to his grounds, on the road leading to Harrogate from Leeds, 1.5 mile from the latter town. There is a basement containing wash-house, pantry, and coal-cellar. The walls are of pitched-face delph stone, with millstone grit dressings, quoins, etc. There is a panel of mosaic work in one gable, and strings of encaustic tile, by Minton and Co. The carving is by Mawer, of Leeds, and the general mason work by Mr. J. Horner, of Chapeltown. [Civil Engineer and Architects Journal 1857 page 176]
