A drinking fountain, in memory of the late Dr. Ockleston, of Cheadle, is to be erected, at a cost of £200. The site selected is opposite the village green at Cheadle, on the highway from Manchester to Wiimslow. Messrs Darbyshire and Smith are the architects. [Manchester Courier 14 July 1888 page 14]

Water fountain and octagonal drinking trough with the inscription - 'Robert Ockleston died 1888, memorial erected 1889'. Ockleston was a notable Cheadle doctor. The fountain is sandstone, polished granite and cast iron. A circular polished granite column rises from an elaborate base and has enriched capital with inscription and heraldic shields. A weather vane is situated on top formerly with four light pendants. The memorial formerly stood at the centre of Cheadle Green.
