Crossley and Gaddum Homes, Children’s Garden Village, Belmont, Cheadle
By July 1922 building work on the first pair of semi-detached houses at the Children's Garden Village had been started, each home accommodating 20 children, a matron or master and an assistant, and containing a spacious, well-lighted dayroom, with cloakrooms, kitchen, lavatories, bathroom, and dormitories. In brief ceremonies on 7 September 1922, the memorial stones of the first houses or homes were laid by Lady Crossley and Mrs H T Gaddum. Each home would accommodate 20 children under the supervision of a “mother” and assistant, and it was anticipated that the houses would be ready for occupation early in the new year.
