A model school for 200 children is being built at Haslington at a cost of £4,000. The school has considerable land attached for experimental gardening and the idea is to utilise this for giving practical instruction to the Cheshire College students who may desire to teach in rural schools and are wishful to acquire agricultural and horticultural knowledge. The Cheshire County Council, in consideration of it being a model school, will pay half of the cost instead of the usual portion of one third. Messrs Birchall Brothers are the builders and Mr T E Fena is the Clerk of Works. [Building News 13 September 1912 page 361]

HASLINGTON PROPOSED COUNCIL SCHOOLS - The Nantwich Union Area Sub-Committee of the Cheshire County Council are about to commence building operations of their new elementary school at Haslington, near Crewe, and the accompanying sketch shows the appearance the school will have to front High-street, Accommodation is now provided for two hundred scholars, and provision is arranged for extension for another hundred scholars when required.  In addition to the classroom space, there will be a central hall and a large marching-corridor for the infants. Separate entrances are being provided for the boys, girls, and infants respectively; also a practical room for science classes, a combined cookery and laundry centre, and a handicraft centre for woodwork and metalwork classes at the rear of the boys' yard. There will be model school gardens at the front of the plot, as shown upon the sketch, and large playing-field at the rear. The county council are giving a special grant towards the cost of this school, and it will be in many respects a special school, affiliated to the new training college which was opened at Crewe on the 5th inst. Brown, of 20., Brazennose-street, Manchester, who built the Wilmslow and Nantwich Council schools; and the general contractors will be Messrs Birchall Brothers, builders, Middlewich.  [Building News 26 July 1912 page 131]
