COTTAGES NEAR MANCHESTER - We give aa excellent example of substantial and picturesque cottage building, which is now going on near the town of Rochdale. The plan design is much to be commended as an improvement on the usual draughty and miserable arrangement which, as a rule, is thought good enough for cottages. The site is on the side of a hill, and the walls are being built of the local stone and the roof is of grey slates. How different our country hillsides would look dotted over with nicely-outlined buildings such as this, in place of the harsh and shapeless lumps of the modern cottage type. The cost of this pair of cottages is £550. [British Architect 27 January 1893 page 69]
