EDUCATION IN DAVYHULME -  Tomorrow (Saturday) the foundation stone of a new national school will be laid at Davyhulme to replace the old school, which was built by subscription in 1789, and has become inadequate to the wants of this growing neighbourhood. … The new school is to cost about £1,300 of which sum over £500 and the site have been given by Mr R H Norreys of Davyhulme Hall, and family. NEW CHURCH SCHOOL AT DAVYHULME – Yesterday afternoon the Bishop of Manchester formally opened a new Church of England school church which has been erected at Davyhulme as a chapel of ease to St Catherine’s, Barton. The Rev Mr Arnold, curate of Stretford will be the minister in charge of the new church, which on week days will be used as a day school. Sittings are provided for about 200 persons. The cost of the building, etc. will be about £1,400, not inclusive of the value of the site which was given by Mr Robert Henry Norreys of Davyhulme Hall. Mr J Herd, builder, of Manchester was the contractor for all the works, under the superintendence of Mr John Lowe, architect, also of this city. [Manchester Guardian 12 April 1881 page 8]
