ADLINGTON. — The memorial stone of a new church, at Adlington, was laid on Saturday last. The church will consist of chancel 32 feet by 25 feet, nave 82 feet by 25 feet, north and south aisles 61 feet by 10 feet 6in., north and south transepts 25 feet by 21 feet, organ chamber at the south-east end 18 feet by 15 feet, clergy vestry 12 feet by 11 feet 6in., choir vestry 13 feet 6 in. by 11 feet 6 in. The tower is placed in the second bay of the south side, and the principal entrance is through it. The pulpit is of Caen stone raised on marble shafts. The font is also of Caen stone. The tower is to be 19 feet square, 63 feet high, surmounted with a spire 72 feet in height. The architects are Messrs T. D. Barry and Son, Liverpool, and the contractor Mr. William Winnard, of Wigan.
