Christ Church Schools, New Windsor, Salford
In the afternoon (of 11 January 1872) the New Windsor Schools connected with Christ Church Salford were opened by the Bishop of Manchester. The building has been erected at a cost of about £750, and is intended for the use of the children in the New Windsor district. The principal room is 63 feet long and 33 feet wide, with a height of 20 feet to the ceiling. The classroom adjoining is 24 feet long and 16 feet wide. Accommodation is provided in the building for 320 children. A neat playground, asphalted, and comprising an area of nearly 600 square yards is enclosed by substantial boundary walls. The rooms are well lighted and ventilated, and fitted with Shillito and Shorland’s school grates. The building has been erected by Mr J Winter from the designs of Mr Sherwin, architect, John Dalton Street.[Manchester Guardian 12 January 1872 page 3]
