A proposed line from Preston Brook, through Frodsham to Chester, a distance of 13 miles, including a tunnel at Sutton and viaduct across the valley of the River Weaver. G W Buck appears to have taken no further part in the scheme following his forced retirement on grounds of ill-health in 1846. The first sod of the line was cut in November 1846 with James Meadows Rendel as engineer. Amalgamation with the Birkenhead and Chester Railway eventually created the Birkenhead, Lancashire and Cheshire Junction Railway.
