Castle Street Improvement Scheme, Swansea (Architectural Competition)
From about 1911 John Cocker collaborated with his fellow Altrincham architect Thomas Harold Hill in various competitions, but there is no evidence of a formal partnership having existed. In 1911 Cocker and Hill entered a competition for the Castle Street Improvement Scheme in Swansea, where they came second to Messrs Phillips and Vaughan of Newport. (Richard Fletcher}.
CASTLE STREET IMPROVEMENT SCHEME, SWANSEA - The Council have adopted the report of the assessor, Mr. S. S. Reay FRIBA of Bath, in this competition. The design chosen (No. 3) is the work of Messrs. Phillip and Vaughan, A/ARIBA, Prudential. Chambers, Newport, who have been appointed architects in accordance with the conditions at a fee of £250. The design awarded the second premium of £50 was by Messrs. John Cocker, ARIBA., and T. Harold Hill, ARIBA, Mossburn Buildings, Altrincham. [Builder 12 May 1911 page 578]
