NEW BROUGHTON SCHOOL -  Formal consent having been received from the Board of Education to the appropriation of the Broughton Town Hall site in Duke Street for the proposed new senior elementary school, rapid progress will now be made with the scheme, and the architect, Mr Percy Howard who, so far, has submitted tentative plans, will be instructed to prepare detailed plans for the approval of the Board of Education and the Salford Education Committee.  Costing £50,000, inclusive of buildings and equipment, the school will be designed to accommodate 640 boys and a similar number of girls. The architect has had considerable experience in school architecture and the new building will embody all the latest furnishings which are the feature of the modern school, including the provision of extra classrooms reserved only for specialist subjects such as domestic science and handicraft work. As has been stated before, a novel feature will be a house built next to the school to accommodate two or three teachers who might wish to avail themselves of the opportunity of residing there. The house will be placed at their disposal and one of the main objects is to enable girls to enjoy a full week's course of practical housewifery under the close supervision of the teachers. This proposal, which has received the approval of the Board of Education, has been successfully introduced in other cities. It is the first scheme of its kind, however, as far as Salford is concerned. [Salford City Reporter 20 September 1935 Page 5]
