The original Bridgewater Hotel, an eighteenth-century coaching inn known locally as The Grapes, stood opposite the Court House. About 1901 this was demolished to make way for a new gatehouse to the New Hall. A new hotel was then built further along Barton Road and its junction with Farm Lane. At this time the 3rd Earl was much involved with the annual Worsley shoot. To cater for the large number of guests attending the shoot, the new hotel was considerably larger than would be appropriate for a small village.*

The main front is of two/three storeys, asymmetrical Red sandstone ground floor with half-timbering above. Three storey projecting entrance bay in red sandstone Strapwork decoration featuring B T (Bridgewater Trust) and the date 1903. The rear, of Ruabon brick with Welsh slate roofs appears to have been built at the same time

* It might be expected that those invited to the Worsley shoot would be accommodated at the Hall. However, Worsley New Hall was little altered from the time of its completion in the 1840s, lacking proper sanitary provision or running water, save for one cold tap in the basement. By 1900 this was considered totally inadequate for the reception of guests.
