This house was built in 1901 for Tom Gallon Lumb (qv), the local architect with whom Lutyens collaborated on the aborted Rossall Beach Garden Village project. It was situated on the corner of Cross Way and Thornton Gate on the edge of the garden village estate and comprised three reception rooms and five bedrooms. It stood in one acre of ground with garage and outbuildings. After the Second World War it was converted into a private hotel, but was demolished about 1970 according to local historian Ted Lightbown. However, the name of the house survives in a cul-de-sac off Thornton Gate named Beechcroft. [Richard Fletcher]
