NEW BAPTIST SUNDAY SCHOOL AT GORTON. The memorial stones of a new school in connection with the West Gorton Baptist Chapel were laid on Saturday afternoon. .....  The school is part of a scheme which includes chapel, lecture hall and school, but it is only intended at present to proceed with the school which will be used for public worship until sufficient funds are raised to warrant the execution of the whole scheme. The school is to accommodate 800 persons, and there are six ante-rooms and vestries. The exterior of the building is of plan brick, with stone dressings and all the interior fittings are to be of pitch pine. The cost of the entire scheme is estimated at £4,500; the work at present being executed will cost £1,500. Mr F Smith of Manchester is the architect and Mr W Thorpe the builder. It is anticipated that the building will be opened by the middle of December. [Manchester Guardian 28 September 1885 page 8]
