A new banking‑room was opened for the Bank of Bolton, Limited, in Bolton, on Monday. It is in style Classical, freely treated, and measures 77 feet 6in by 30 feet 6inches, and 33 feet. high to ridge-piece. The dado and doors, and all fittings, are of Dantzic oak, and the upper part of walls are lined with marble mosaic. Behind this room is the strong‑room, and below are book and stationery stores, lavatories, and heating‑chamber. Mr George Woodhouse, of Bolton, was the architect, Mr D. Walch the clerk of works, and Messrs J. H. and D. Marsden, of the same town, the contractors. [Building News 6 May 1881 Page 530]

BOLTON - A banking room nearly 80 feet long, just opened at Bolton by the Bank of Bolton, affords another instance of the extension of modern improvement in the application of building material. Manchester already possesses two or three banks in which the premises are so finished inside, that the amount of painting and maintenance generally is reduced to a minimum. The Manchester and County Bank, the Joint Stock Bank, and the Savings Bank are admirable instances of this, thanks to the architects, Messrs. Mills & Murgatroyd, and Messrs. Salomons & Ely, and should be seen by all interested in progress of this kind, for the result in all is in some respects very satisfactory and pleasing.

Bolton is now possessed of a similar work in the Bank of Bolton new telling room, which has just been completed from the design of Mr. George Woodhouse. The room is 77 feet 6 inches long, by 30 feet 6 inches wide, with a height to tie-beam under the lantern of 22 feet, and 33 feet to ridge piece in centre. The floors are of rolled iron joists and concrete, covered with marble mosaic in the vestibules, corridor, &c., executed by Mr. Ludwig Oppenheimer. A dado of woodwork, 5 feet high, is carried round the room and entrance corridor, the remainder of the walls being covered with marble mosaic tiling. The ceiling is also of wood. The new room is admirably lighted, and the interior has a rich and pleasing effect. Other necessary offices have also been added. The marble mosaic tiled work of the walls was executed by Messrs. J. & H. Patteson, of Manchester, and the general contractors were Messrs. J. H. and G. Marsden, of Bolton. [British Architect 6 May 1881 page 230-231]
