RAILWAY IN DENMARK - It is not generally known that a railway from Altona, two miles from Hamburg, to Kiel, in the Duchy of Holstein, has been projected, and is about to be constructed, under the auspices of the King of Denmark, with a view of effecting a communication between the North Sea and the Baltic. Mr George Watson Buck, engineer-in-chief to the Manchester and Birmingham Railway Company, has been selected as the engineer to the Undertaking. [Manchester Guardian 1 August 1840 page 2].
Ill health forced Buck’s return to England before completion of the scheme.
