Mr. F. Howarth appeared on behalf of the owner and licensee if the Eagle and Child, Stanley Street, for the sanction to alterations. He said that the Licensing Committee had expressed a wish that the premises should be made more self-contained. They proposed to do this by erecting a wall and making a doorway into Butcher Lane. Mr. David Hardman, architect, explained the plans. [Bury Times - Saturday 12 March 1910 page 9]
NOTE - Stanley Street now renamed “The Rock.” Late 20th century redevelopment has obliterated the nineteenth century street pattern in this ares including Butcher’s Lane and all associated buildings.
