All Souls School
WEASTE CATHOLIC SCHOOLS. LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONES - On Saturday afternoon foundation stones of a new day-school at Weaste, to be hereafter known as "All Souls' School," were laid by Lady Annette de Trafford and Mr. Gilbert de Trafford, her son. The school is in connection with St. James's Catholic Church, Pendleton, and will be a two-storey building. It is being erected in Cemetery-road, but the chief entrance will be from Bute-street, a new thoroughfare leading to Mode Wheel-road. Red bricks, with stone dressings, are the principal features of the building. Besides the two large rooms on the ground and upper storeys, there will be three classrooms, accommodation being provided for 700 children. The cost will be about £3,000 and one-third of this amount has already been subscribed. To the Rev. G. W. Saffenreuter, pastor of St. James's and promoter of the scheme, is due much praise for the great pains he has taken in furthering the new school. It expected to be completed by Christmas. The contract for the work has been let to Messrs. W. Southern and Sons, Salford; and the stonework to Mr. Robert Wooller, Eccles. Mr. Richard Jackson is the architect and Mr. John Turner the clerk of works. [Salford City Reporter 12 October 1889 page 3]
