All Saints Church, High Street, Ellington, Huntingdonshire - Repairs to Nave
ELLINGTON, HUNTS - The church here has been re-opened after undergoing repair. The chancel has been rebuilt in the Early Decorated style from designs by Mr. G. G. Scott, architect to the impropriators, the Master and Fellows of St. Peter's College. The nave has been partially re-seated, the pulpit lowered and greatly improved, by Mr. John Ladds, architect of London, who designed the very rich altar cloth, corona, and other church furniture. We also notice a great improvement externally, the churchyard having been enlarged and enclosed by a new open arcaded brick wall, which has a very pleasing effect, and was also designed by Mr. J. Ladds. The whole of the building and joiners' works have been ably carried out by Mr. John Bird, of Huntingdon, builder; the beautiful wood-carving to stalls and altar-table is by Mr. Blackman; the altar cloth by Jones and Willis; the corona and lights by Messrs. Johnston Brothers, Holborn; and the tiles in nave by Messrs. Maw and Co.; those in chancel, which are very rich, by Mr. Godwin. [Building News 20 November 1863 page 876]
