Lady Brooks, wife of the member for the Altrincham Division, laid the memorial stone in connection with certain alterations and additions to this church on Saturday. The new works comprise the erection of a north aisle, corresponding with that on the south side, and an organ chamber and choir vestry on the south side of the chancel. The accommodation, on completion of the alterations, will be 582 appropriated seats and 283 free. The total cost of the alterations will be about ,1,500. ... Mr J Lowe of Manchester is the architect. The Bishop of Chester will be the special preacher at the re-opening to-morrow of St. Anne's Church, Sale, after considerable enlargement. The foundation-stone of the extension was laid on March 26th by Lady Brooks, wife of Sir W Cunliffe Brooks Bart., MP. for the Altrincham Division of Mid-Cheshire. The architect's plans provided for the erection of a new north aisle corresponding with the existing one, a choir vestry and organ chamber on the south side the church, and of a porch at the west end, with the renovation of the tower and spire, and the re-seating of the gallery. The effect of the extension will be to increase the accommodation of the church from 820 to 845 sittings, the additional seats being added to the free church accommodation - The estimated cost is about £1,500, some £500 additional being necessary for the erection of a new organ. Mr John Lowe, of St Ann’s Square is the architect for the work, the contract having been entrusted to Mr J B Kendal, also of this city [Manchester Courier 28 June 1887 page 3]
