Originally built as the Manningham Brewery about 1861. In 1893, the Northbrook Brewery, as it was now named, was acquired by Joseph Hey, and the Company was registered as J. Hey & Company Limited. It gained a reputation for brewing fine quality bottled ales and was awarded Brewers Championship Gold Cup for best beer in a bottle at the Brewer's Exhibitions of 1920 and 1930. The Northbrook Brewery and its 75 tied public houses were acquired by Samuel Webster & Sons Ltd in 1966. Brewing ceased in 1967 after which the Northbrook Brewery was demolished. The additions of 1893 followed the change of ownership in that year.
