Joseph Sunlight claimed to have built 1000 houses in Prestwich before he was 21 Although this claim may be exaggerated, a considerable part of the Sedgley Park estate were certainly given over to the developer after 1907. Comparison between the OS map revised in 1907 and that revised in 1915 indicate the rapidity of the development. New houses sprang up in the fields between Bury Old Road and Bury New Road along the newly created Kings Road, Albert Avenue, Richmond Avenue, Queens Drive and the inter-linking road network.
