The son of John Lingard Vaughan J P and his wife Frances, William Arthur Vaughan was born at Heaton Norris in 1852. He was in partnership with R B Preston (qv) from 1882 under the style Preston and Vaugan until his retirement about 1900 while still in his late forties. He married at the age of 61 on 15 July 1914 but was dead within the year.
